Waterschap Drents Overijsselse Delta

The challenge

Enius is managing the construction of a new wind turbine on behalf of the Drents Overijsselse Delta Water Authority. Construction started in early May, and the tower, nacelle and generator have now been installed. Completion of the installation is scheduled for mid-May, after which the testing phase will begin. The turbine is expected to be officially commissioned in June 2026.

The turbine is an Enercon E138 with a capacity of 4.5 MW, a hub height of 131 metres and a tip height of no less than 200 metres.

In his role as Technical Manager, Nick Nieuwe Weme oversees the technical progress of the project and coordinates the interfaces between all parties involved, including the turbine supplier, electrical contractors and civil engineering contractors.

As Contract Manager, Peter Spruijt ensures that everything remains on track from both a contractual and process perspective. His responsibilities include planning, progress monitoring, performance documentation, financial settlement and overall process management.

What makes this project unique?

Nick explains:

“The location next to the wastewater treatment plant, where an old sludge basin was still located last year, requires continuous coordination with the people operating the facility. During the lifting of turbine components, for example, parts of the treatment plant are temporarily closed as a precaution and for safety reasons.

Sustainability also played an important role in the Water Authority’s requirements. An existing transformer building has been reused, and material from the former sludge basin was repurposed for the construction of the crane pad.”
